A former Winter Olympian and Australian National Champion in Alpine Skiing, Emily has been passionate about health and fitness since a young age. Emily started teaching HIIT, Boxing & Cycle classes at Studio PP’s South Yarra studio in 2018, since then she has completed her mat and reformer Pilates qualifications.
What is your philosophy when it comes to health and wellness?
My health and wellness philosophy is that time can be overlooked when it comes to exercise, often people think that if they don’t have 45 minutes to get a workout in then don’t bother when it’s really what you make of it. A 15 minute HIIT class is better than nothing!
Why is workplace wellness so important?
I think workplace wellness is so important because we all can think of an example when we’ve been a little burnt out or in a rut work-wise and it can be hard to get out of that rut without support. To me, exercise has always been one of the biggest tools to help me achieve mental clarity and help me get back into my rhythm. It’s fantastic to see workplaces supporting their staff with wellness initiatives.
How have you continued to focus on your health and wellness whilst at home?
A big thing for me has been putting on exercise gear first thing in the morning! So many lockdown days, especially throughout winter, could easily be done in a tracksuit on the couch, so I like to make sure I’m dressed for my workout first thing in the morning to get it done.
Another tool I’ve been doing is booking my workouts in my calendar app on my phone, just like I would do if studios were open in person. It keeps me accountable and also keeps me in a routine over lockdown.
What are you most looking forward to about working at RISE by Studio PP?
I’m really looking forward to meeting everyone in person! One of the things I love about teaching is getting to know the clients and supporting them on their wellness journeys.
