Three Yin Yoga poses to increase productivity

Jun 26

Yin is a form of Yoga that soothes the nervous system, leaving you feeling nourished and restored. In Yin Yoga, stretches are held for longer periods of time, and focus on releasing tight fascia (the connective tissue in our body), whilst energising your joints.

For an instant mental and physical reset, Director of Yoga and Meditation at RISE by Studio PP, Lou West recommends these three poses.

Reclined Butterfly

  1. Sit on your mat with the soles of your feet touching.
  2. Take a bolster or pillow and place them behind you in line with your spine.
  3. Lay back over these supports. Allow your chest and collar bones to broaden, taking several deep breaths from your heart. Place your arms by your sides, with your palms facing up next to you.
  4. Hold for five minutes, focusing on your breath.

Sphinx Pose

  1. Lie on your belly and place your arms out in front of you, with your shoulders sitting directly above your elbows. Keep your forearms parallel and palms facing down, fingers spread.
  2. Spend one-two minutes relaxing into this shape. You should feel as though you are extending the crown of your head up and out of your shoulders.
  3. After a few minutes, slowly move your chin to your chest, noticing what this does to the back line of your body.
  4. Breathe into this shape for up to five minutes before releasing into a rebound on your belly with your arms by your sides.

Child’s Pose

  1. Come to kneel and take your knees wide with your big toes touching.
  2. Bring a bolster or pillow in front length ways, in the same direction as your mat.
  3. Lay down over these supports, taking your sit bones towards your heels.
  4. Take one ear to the pillow and close your eyes. After a few minutes, change sides to ensure so your neck is balanced.
  5. Hold for five minutes, focusing on your breath.
